NEW LEARNERS

Say the words “college student,” and most people will picture an 18- to 22-year- old who lives on campus, attends school full-time, and is supported by his or her parents. That description, however, only applies to 27% of students enrolled in higher education today. The majority of “college students”—some 73%—are nontraditional students, also known as working learners (Choy, 2002).
