"Society 3.0", Section 2.3: "The Future of Women"

No longer a minority, women now comprise a major force in America. They are significant contributors to the U.S. economy—they influence more than 25% of the U.S. GDP (Barsh & Yee, 2011). Between 1970 and 2009, women went from holding 37% of all jobs to nearly 48%, almost 38 million more women during this period. Without women in the workforce, our economy would be 25% smaller than it is today (Barsh & Yee, 2011, p. 4). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of working women has grown by 44.2% since 1984, up from 44 million to 72 million in 2009 (BLS, 2010).
